Federal and State agencies are recruiting now for wildland firefighting positions that begin in May 2010.

The Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Forest Service, and the Utah Division Forestry, Fire and State Lands are looking for wildland firefighters for next year’s fire season. Applications are available online.To receive early consideration applications must be received by January 10, 2010 for May-September employment.

The work itself requires arduous physical exertion under rigorous conditions. The ability to work in rough, uneven terrain is essential and climbing hills covered with trees, brush, rocks, and debris is to be expected. Minimum physical skills include heavy labor, bending, lifting, and carrying backpacks and gear weighing 45 pounds or more.

Creative Writing Workshop With Danielle Beazer Dubrasky “Imagery in Landscape Poetry”

10am-3pm.Sat.Jan.06.10 - Z-Arts - Danielle Beazer Dubrasky is the author of Persephone Awakened, a chapbook of poems designed by book artist Sue Cotter of Woodhenge Press. She is the recipient of the 2006 Utah Arts Council First Place Award for Poetry for a book-length collection of poems entitled To Live Elsewhere. Her poetry has been published in ECOllective, Tar River Poetry, Weber Studies, Petroglyph, Dialogue and other places. She has collaborated with choreographers, composers, and visual artists in performances of her poetry. Danielle grew up in Charlottesville , Virginia . She has a master’s degree in English from Stanford University, where her thesis director was Denise Levertov, and a PhD from the University of Utah’s Creative Writing program.
